Speaking yesterday, Shaftesbury Young People (SYP) Chief Executive, Dr Bob Goldfield pledged to help young people who are affected by the liquidation of Kids Company to continue with their education and therapy interventions without undue interruption.

Dr Goldfield stated:

we are very sorry to see the demise of Kids Company after the enormous impact that they have made over the last 19 years to the lives of disadvantaged young people. As a long established, London based education charity, with over a 170 years’ experience operating in the same locations and providing similar services to Kids Company, we would expect, with others, to be asked to assist in providing continuing services to those children and young people who need our help and support through this difficult time in their lives. We are ready and able to help”.

SYP provide one to one and small group education to young people in London, Stoke, Cambridge and Coventry. SYP also owns and operates the Arethusa Venture Centre in Kent and the well-respected Siblings United service, providing opportunities for separated siblings in care to maintain long term, family relationships.

SYP Education Manager, Sarah Gentles, is already in discussion with the relevant authorities so that swift action can be identified and actioned, ensuring that the disruption to children and young people is minimised.
