Prison Me! No-Way! tell students about the reality of prison

This month students from our Keresley education centre received a visit from educational charity Prison Me! No-way! who aim to raise awareness amongst young people about the causes, Prison me no wayconsequences and penalties of criminal behaviour. The students were joined by Jerry, a retired prison officer, and Chantelle, an ex-offender. Both told the students about their life and what it was like to be in prison and how prison’s operate.

Following meeting Jerry and Chantelle the students were shown a to-scale, fully furnished replica of a prison cell inside a van, here they were given further information about how crime effects prisoners, their families and the victims. The students seemed especially struck by how uncomfortable the beds were!

At the end of the day all of the young people came away from the event having had a really enjoyable day but with a much keener sense that prison was definitely not for them!

Students rewarded with paintballing day out

As a reward to celebrate their behaviour, attitude and academic performance during the second academic term students from the Keresley centre were taken paintballing.  A team made up ofPaintball kersley students and staff combined to take on an all adult team.  Throughout the day students and staff demonstrated excellent team working, communication  and a determination to win.  The combined Keresley team won their first game and only narrowly lost their second, due to being forced to retire because the team had run out of paintball bullets.

Team SYP Keresley more than held their own in the remaining games, and were commended by the opposition for their behaviour, good manners and sportsmanship.  Each young person in the team was thanked personally for making the day such a successful and enjoyable experience.  One member from the opposing team said that “All of the students had been a credit to their school, and done themselves and their school proud”
